Science Teacher Eric Patin Takes Home NC 2015 Milken Educator Award and $25,000

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard,” North Carolina Milken Educator Eric Patin tells an auditorium of cheering students, colleagues and dignitaries at Chatham Central High after accepting a $25,000 Milken Educator Award. Patin is the only North Carolina recipient of the 2015-16 Milken Educator Award season and the first Chatham County educator to win the award since the program’s launch in 1987. The science department chair is completely caught off guard when North Carolina Superintendent of Education Dr. June Atkinson calls his name; true to form, the Milken Family Foundation surprises Patin and the entire school when Milken Educator Awards Senior Vice President Dr. Jane Foley turns a routine assembly on its head.
