Union City High School
Yes, It's True! Kimberly Moreno Wins NJ Milken Educator Award
Health sciences teacher Kimberly Moreno thinks state and district dignitaries are gathered with students and faculty in the gym to honor Union City High School for its college and career readiness. “I told all my students, 'Wear your scrubs today - show them who you are and how hard you've worked,'” she says. Instead, Milken Family Foundation Chairman and Co-Founder Lowell Milken presents Moreno with a surprise $25,000 Milken Educator Award in front of cheering students, colleagues, New Jersey Department of Education Assistant Commissioner Peter Shulman, Union City Public School District Superintendent Silvia Abbato and veteran Milken Educators.
Moreno, who as the advisor of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) has been instrumental in helping her students enter local, state and national health competitions in which they routinely receive local awards and prizes, clearly loves her chosen profession. "Everything [the teachers] here do is because of you guys," she tells the students at the assembly. "The harder you work in the classroom, the more it makes an impact on our lives."
