John Melandro’s Milken Educator Award Surprise in Mastic Beach, NY

MASTIC BEACH, NEW YORK—At Tangier Smith Elementary School an ordinary assembly turns into an extraordinary surprise for one outstanding educator. Milken Educator Awards Senior Vice President Dr. Jane Foley, with the help of Eastern Suffolk Board of Cooperative Educational Services District Superintendent Dr. Jasmin Varela, Eastern Suffolk BOCES CEO David Wicks, and William Floyd School District Superintendent Kevin Coster, presents third and fifth grade teacher John Melandro with a New York Milken Educator Award and $25,000. He’s the second Milken Educator of the 2024-2025 season to join the Network on the exciting path to the announcement of the 3,000th Milken Educator.
