This year marked the launch of the inaugural cohort of ARTEFFECT Ambassadors, a fellowship for educators working directly with K-12 students to foster the visual arts. Leslie Sullivan (SC '19), a 2023-24 Ambassador, shares her experience learning from and alongside other educators through project-based learning about Unsung Heroes, culminating in a capstone project to make an impact on her school and community. As a social studies teacher, Leslie has incorporated the ARTEFFECT Competition into her classroom to bring another dimension to student learning.

"One of the things that's really positive about the ARTEFFECT program is you don't have to be an art teacher to teach art," Leslie says. "A lot of people don't realize that you can teach art in a math classroom. Some of the best work we can do is having our students explore content and portray it in a new way."
