Jewell Boutte (CA '88) died in March 2008 in California. She was the principal at Los Angeles' Crenshaw High School when she received her Award and collaborated closely with Dr. Sanderson Smith (CA '88), who taught math at a private school in Carpinteria. They exchanged students a number of times so their students could meet and learn about schools in different settings.
