June E. Eressy (MA ‘01) passed away on January 4, 2024, in Worcester, Massachusetts, at the age of 72. At the Time of the Award, June was a middle school language arts teacher at University Park Campus School in Worcester, MA. She made a profound impact on Worcester Public Schools, serving as the first teacher and then principal of University Park Campus School where she helped establish the only high-performing urban high school in Massachusetts, achieving a 100% graduation and college acceptance rate.

A National Board-Certified teacher, Eressy devoted her career to empowering students through innovative literacy strategies and interdisciplinary learning. Her leadership extended beyond the classroom—mentoring educators, strengthening school-community partnerships, and guiding struggling schools toward excellence. She later served as principal of Claremont Academy and Chandler Elementary, as well as a Worcester Public Schools quadrant manager. She also chaired the Humanities Curriculum Team at Clark University.

Eressy is survived by her husband of 38 years, Michael Eressy; her children, Elizabeth, Carly, and Michael; her granddaughter, Lillian Rose; and her sister, Nancy Buniowski. Known for her warmth, humor, and deep love for education, she leaves behind a lasting legacy in Worcester and beyond.
