Jewell Boutté instituted dynamic administrative and curricular reforms as principal of Crenshaw High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District. To ensure community involvement, she formed a block club and asked parents to compile a wish-list. In the course of fulfilling this request, Ms. Boutté also brought Crenshaw an innovative magnet program, the Teacher Training Academy, to attract and train prospective educators. During Ms. Boutté's tenure, record amounts of scholarship and grant funds were awarded, and the school was recognized as one which excels in academics and athletics.
