Memoriam All Memoriams
Bill R. Johnson (TX ’00) passed away on November 24, 2020, at the age of 65. At the time of his Milken Award, Bill was principal at Crowley High School in Crowley, Texas, and was the first principal in Texas to receive the Milken Educator Award. As leader of the school, Bill received honors from Texas Education Agency for his parental involvement programs such as “Take Your Parents To School Day” in which parents shadowed their students, learning how they managed their time and the demands they faced. In addition, Crowley High School received “Exemplary” status on the state of Texas Spring 2000 accountability system, one of only two class 4AAAA high schools with similar demographics to be so honored. In 2005, Bill transitioned to the executive director of student services, then as an assistant and deputy superintendent before retiring from Crowley ISD in 2019.
In 2010, the district dedicated its Career and Technology Education Center in honor of Bill. A new building opened in 2020, and it continues to bear his name as the Bill R. Johnson CTE Center. In 2021, Crowley honored Bill’s life and 26-year legacy as an administrator in the district through a dedication ceremony.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Rhonda K. Johnson. He is survived by daughters LaToya Pierre and Tasha Coffee.
