ELLSWORTH, MAINE — In November 2023, career and technical education (CTE) teacher Meghan Stubbs got the surprise of a lifetime: a Maine Milken Educator Award and a $25,000 cash prize. Meghan teaches early childhood education classes at Hancock County Technical Center, empowering students through hands-on experience that prepares them to follow in their beloved teacher's footsteps and excel in their own future careers.

"You can just see in the faces of your students here. They're so proud. We all are," Maine Education Commissioner Pender Makin told Meghan at her surprise notification. The stunned teacher thanked her colleagues and students, sharing why this recognition was extra meaningful. "This is a huge honor because I am teaching, hopefully, our next generation," she said.
