Emily Litz’s Milken Educator Award Surprise in New Jersey
SCOTCH PLAINS, NEW JERSEY— Students and staff at Malcolm E. Nettingham Middle School are buzzing with excitement this morning at an all-school assembly with New Jersey Acting Commissioner of Education Kevin Dehmer. In a turn of events, fifth grade teacher Emily Litz is presented with the surprise of a lifetime from Milken Educator Awards Senior Vice President Dr. Jane Foley: a 2024-25 New Jersey Milken Educator Award and an unrestricted $25,000 cash prize. Emily is the first-ever Milken Award recipient in Scotch Plains-Fanwood Public Schools history and joins the national Milken Educator Network on the exciting path to the announcement of the 3,000th Milken Educator this Award season.
