Veterans Day Celebration Pays Tribute to Shasta Looper as 2012 SC Milken Educator
Donning red, white and blue for a Veterans Day celebration at A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School in Greenville, South Carolina, Shasta Looper was thrown for a real loop when the celebration turned into an honor for her. After honoring our nation’s veterans, State Superintendent of Education Dr. Mick Zais, joined by National Institute for Excellence in Teaching Chief Learning Officer Jason Culbertson, surprised Shasta with South Carolina’s only Milken Educator Award for 2012. Shasta blends her passions for technology, art and literacy into highly engaging lessons tailored to every child. The result: 85-90 percent of her students achieve more than a year’s growth.
