Science Teacher Tracy Espiritu (NJ '14) Wins Rutgers University Dean's Award for Service

Rutgers University School of Engineering has named Elizabeth Public Schools science teacher and Milken Educator Tracy Espiritu (NJ '14) to receive its 2015 Dean's Award for Service for her work in advancing the engineering profession.
Espiritu, who left a lucrative career in product engineering for the classroom, has driven the implementation of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics) curriculum at Elizabeth's Dr. Albert Einstein Academy School No. 29. The school was one of 25 chosen as a NASA Explorer School in 2007; Espiritu, who led the program, guided students through video conferences with NASA engineers and astronauts via the International Space Station and arranged visits from NASA personnel. Espiritu also coaches colleagues in STEAM-related professional development.
