THAT'S OUR TEACHER! Excited students crowd around fourth-grade teacher Kelly Sutcliffe at her surprise Milken Educator Award notification. Sutcliffe encourages students to learn through hands-on problem-solving. For a unit on rising temperatures, for example, Sutcliffe had students design and build portable air-conditioning units out of low-cost materials like foam coolers, PVC piping and ice cubes.
