Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Education Commissioner Mike Morath and Somerset Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Saul Hinojosa are visiting Von Ormy to commend the students and staff of Barrera Veterans Elementary School, which posted the district’s highest academic student achievement last year. But there’s a big surprise to come at the all-school assembly: Governor Abbott and Dr. Gary Stark, CEO of the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching, name master teacher Amber Simpson the recipient of Texas’ 2016-17 Milken Educator Award and $25,000!
