Dec 21, 2015Best Wishes For a Happy, Healthy Holiday Season
Maine's Milken Educators gave science educator Michaela Lamarre (ME '15) a warm welcome
Dear Milken Educators and Champions of Education,
We know you're eager for your December break to start and your inbox is already full of holiday cheer, so we'll keep this brief.
MAINE: STEM teacher Michaela Lamarre received Maine's Milken Educator Award at Saco Middle School on December 10. "I want my students to think and act like scientists so when they go out into the world, they know how to make informed decisions," she said of her approach to teaching science. PHOTOS | VIDEO
VIRGINIA: It's never easy to surprise the principal, but we managed when Amber Dortch was named a Virginia Milken Educator at Hugo A. Owens Middle School in Chesapeake on December 11. In the two years since Dortch became principal, the school has retained full accreditation and scores on state tests have improved in all core academic areas. PHOTOS | VIDEO
CALIFORNIA: The shootings in San Bernardino prompted two important Connections articles on our website. Marisa Rivas (CA '09), an elementary school principal, shared how her school's staff and students were affected by the events in nearby San Bernardino. We also spoke with Los Angeles child psychologist Dr. Nina Tepper, who shared advice for teachers on talking with kids about violence.
As 2015 winds down, we'd like to take a moment to thank you for being part of the Milken Educator Network — this year and every year.
We love shining the spotlight on outstanding educators with the Milken Educator Awards. We're proud to inspire students to pursue careers in the classroom. And we're glad you're in this with us.
