Dr. Mathis serves as an active member of the School, Home, Community. She retired from Clark County School District after 35 years as teacher, assistant principal and principal of an elementary school. Her honors include: recipient of the 2000 Milken Family Foundation Education Award, Education Congressional Recognition from Congresswoman Shelley Berkley for “Outstanding Achievement and Major Academic Growth: The First Annual Award for improvements in Nevada’s First Congressional District. Dr. Mathis was inducted into the Clark County School District’s Excellence in Education Hall of Fame that recognizes extraordinary and unique commitment to educational excellence. February, 2010, Dr. Beverly Mathis was selected for a Paul Harris Fellowship from the Rotary Club of Las Vegas. “Mathis was chosen for her incredible drive and passion in improving the lives of children who attends her school.” The most recent honor has been the namesake for the Dr. Beverly Sue Mathis Elementary School that opened, August 2017.
Beverly S. Mathis is celebrating 43 years of marriage to Raymond Mathis who is a retired Clark County School District Administrator. Raymond and Beverly are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Tya Raenise Mathis-Coleman (Director 1, Recruitment Diversity and High-Need-areas Focus (CCSD) and Ashley Rae Jackson (Director of Admissions & Enrollment Management for Ursuline Academy, Dallas, Texas). Both girls are Nevada Millennium Scholars. Beverly’s hobbies include reading, bowling, and promoting positive family values in the home, school, and the community.
Dr. Mathis continues her work focusing on Early Learning, Family Engagement, and Literacy.
