Melissa Kovac Joins New Mexico Milken Educators

Amy Biehl Community School in Santa Fe is getting ready for a celebration. New Mexico Secretary of Education Hanna Skandera and Dr. Veronica C. Garcia, superintendent of the Santa Fe Public School District, are visiting to commend the school on its designation as a Green LEED School. But there's another reason for their visit, revealed when Dr. Jane Foley, senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards, surprises second-grade teacher Melissa Kovac with New Mexico’s 2016-17 Milken Educator Award and $25,000.
