California Department of Education Superintendent Tom Torlakson congratulates the school on its new sensitivity training program and talks about the power of "TEAM"—Together Everyone Accomplishes More. Torlakson had worked with the school's namesake, Ruben S. Ayala, in the California legislature: "Senator Ayala was an outstanding citizen and role model for us all." Torlakson also talks about California's teacher shortage, which leads him to introduce an unexpected guest whose life work has been focused on elevating the teaching profession.
