When Hector was in the classroom, he stressed the importance of community service programs and civic engagement. "Service learning projects engage all levels of students in hands-on learning experiences," he said in a handout that accompanied his Forum presentation. "It encourages students to think outside the box about possible solutions to identified community issues. This prompts them to think critically and collaborate to affect change."
