Dear Milken Educators and Champions of Education,

It's a wrap! The 2015-16 Milken Educator Awards have come to a close. It's been an amazing season, and we've added a total of 37 outstanding educators to the family. Meet the last two honorees below and follow along in our photo galleries and videos.

Welcome, Mr. DeGroot and Mrs. Wilson!

Colin DeGroot (NM '15, left): Students fight to get into Colin DeGroot's science classes at The ASK Academy in Rio Rancho. DeGroot's students have built roller coasters, a rocket, a wind farm, and a car that runs on carbon dioxide. Their next project: setting up an array of solar panels on the school's campus to provide power to the facility. Photos | Video

Lauren Anne Wilson (VA '15, right): In addition to her classroom duties at C.D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, where she teaches algebra and calculus, Lauren Wilson serves as the school's lead teacher mentor and has coached both soccer and volleyball. The volleyball summer program she created for incoming freshman girls has worked so well that other schools in the area are following her lead and creating their own. Photos | Video

20160311 Spotlight

We continue our Spotlight interviews with this year's Milken Educators in Connections. We’ve purposely gone beyond resume points to give you insight into what makes these outstanding educators tick. You’ll see recipients talking about their own most memorable teachers; how the very first jobs they held as teenagers influence the way they teach today; their varied paths to the classroom; and what they say to students who express interest in careers in education.
