Biographical Information

Teaching the joy of science to students of all ages has been William Richey's professional passion for 35 years and he believes that "science should be relevant, hands-on and exciting!" A former Ohio Teacher of the Year, Radio Shack National Teacher, and Disney American Teacher Award winner,  Mr. Richey has been chosen by the valedictorians at Xenia High School in Xenia 37 times as their most inspirational teacher. He's frequently called upon to present hands-on science workshops for local, state and national audiences. Under his tutelage, the high school Chemistry Club has grown to include more than 150 students who present an original chemistry demonstration show to the entire elementary school and then teach hands-on science lesson in the classrooms five times a year at local elementary schools. During the summer Mr. Richey runs a successful "Science is Fun!" camp for students in grades 1-5, engaging campers in a variety of hands-on activities using everyday items and employing fellow science teachers as assistants. ty. His latest undertaking is coordinating science activities with original children's fiction and nonfiction books in a series called "Billy Beaker and the Amazing Avogadro".
