Known throughout Fulton County for her leadership and expertise in vertical teaming, math teacher Wendy McCarron has helped improve instruction for students across multiple grade levels at Northview High School in Duluth and its feeder schools throughout the district. In addition to courses ranging from remedial math to Advanced Placement Statistics, McCarron designed and taught a block class for struggling seniors that combines Algebra II, Discrete Math and Statistics into a one-year program. McCarron not only leads the Vertical Team for all four core subjects in the Northview cluster, but also serves as a trainer and consultant in vertical teaming to more than 150 teachers in the county. Her contributions helped Northview achieve the state's highest math SAT scores in 2006. McCarron was instrumental in developing the Professional Learning Community (PLC) concept at Northview and led faculty through the first year of PLC implementation. She also led the school's implementation of new Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) in high school math. A former consultant with The College Board, McCarron is also co-author of a workbook on teaching strategies for geometry.
