After just five years as principal of the newly created Haddam-Killingworth Middle School in Higganum, Virginia, Rebar's school was named a National School of Excellence. Her seventh and eighth graders benefit from Ms. Rebar's dedication to creating programs just for middle-schoolers, such as modular scheduling in foreign language and reading. She is concerned with the decline of support systems for young students outside school and is developing policies to meet the changing needs of her students. Ms. Rebar has written and spoken on various topics, such as athletics programs and school identity. She also serves as chairwoman of the Connecticut Task Force on Early Adolescent Education and as president of the Northeast Coalition of Educational Leaders.
