Vallye Blanton now teaches middle school American Studies and high school mathematics at an independent school in Valdosta, Georgia. She also serves as dean of faculty and community service coordinator. At her previous elementary school she served as academic coach and a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher. She has coordinated an annual Biography Blitz, Career Day, Lunch and Learn programs for parents, "Parents are Teachers, Too" workshops, Dr. Seuss Day, and the school yearbook. She also co-piloted a conflict resolution program, designed and implemented a Book Buddy program and served as chairperson of the School Improvement Team/Leadership Team. Currently, she coordinates a Veterans' Day Celebration honoring local veterans. Prior experience includes teaching math at Lowndes Middle School and Lowndes High School. She served on the state superintendent's Teacher Advisory Council. In 1994, Blanton was recognized as Georgia Teacher of the Year. She received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching in 1999 and a Christa McAuliffe Fellowship in 2000. III.
