Toni Lockhart, former master teacher at Rena Elementary School in Van Buren, has the distinction of being the first Arkansas teacher ever to obtain National Board Certification. A specialist in standards-based education, Lockhart has been an educational consultant for the past 17 years. Working throughout the state of Arkansas, at first with NSCI/Learning 24/7 and for the last 16 years with Elbow 2 Elbow Educational Consulting, Inc., Lockhart works with everyone from the Pre-K student to the teachers and principals to superintendents and school boards in Pre-K through 12th grade public schools. This mission in each district and school building is ultimately the same : help identify what needs to be done, help devise a plan to accomplish the work, and assist in implementation. Though the work keeps means being away from home a couple nights a week, the rewards justify the time on the road. Lockhart and music-teacher husband, Andy, have 4 children. One is married, living in Brooklyn, NY. One is in college, and two are in Jr. High and High School, still living at home.
