At Bridge Creek High School in Blanchard, fine arts teacher Tim Rose helps his students develop an appreciation of art through a combination of hands-on activities, lectures, videos and art books. He initiated a multicultural art education class that explores five different cultures through a study of their art, culminating in a multicultural pot luck luncheon. To raise funds for the art department, Mr. Rose organizes an annual chalk drawing contest that has become a tradition in Bridge Creek High School. He collaborates with other teachers for interdisciplinary instruction, invites artists-in-residence to give presentations, and has helped several students advance to professional careers in the arts. A Fulbright Scholar, Mr. Rose redesigned the high school art curriculum to align with state standards and teaches in the school's alternative education program.
