Thomas Ryan, Ph.D., is executive director of technology for Albuquerque Public Schools (APS), which serves over 89,000 students. The APS Technology Department has 85 employees supporting online learning, technical support for hardware, software, networking and core enterprise applications. The district recently finished implementing a new financial system as well as human resources/pay implementation, and is currently deploying a new Student Information System. Dr. Ryan's other duties include chairing the APS Capital Election Committee. Dr. Ryan is also chair of the New Mexico Council on Technology in Education, and serves on the New Mexico Information Technology Commission, which disseminates state information architecture and strategic I.T. planning. He is a member of several state and national professional organizations, and has over 26 years' experience in public education, having served as a teacher, high school principal and executive director of technology. He is a member of the New Mexico Learning Network Core Team, which in 2007 successfully lobbied the legislature for a statewide Cyber Academy to support and help align K-12 public education, higher education and state government agencies. Dr. Ryan is an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico, teaching data-driven decision-making.
I am currently the Chief Technology Officer for a school district with over 85,000 students. We have currently developed a Technology Master Plan based on student success that incorportates the Process of Education as well as the Business of Education.
