Tamiko (Christmas) Miyagi teaches math at Bonanza High School in Clark County School District. A participant in the "EQUALS" project to encourage girls to study math, Ms. (Christmas) Miyagi has served on many school district task forces to study curriculum and has provided in-service instruction on new materials. She is an active member of the South Nevada Math Council, and served as the body's president in 1987-88. Ms. (Christmas) Miyagi was one of five teachers in the district chosen to teach in the Math Institute Program, an after-school program for exceptional math students. A state recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching in 1989 and 1990, she received the national Presidential Award in 1991. For her work in applied technical mathematics, she was national semifinalist in the 1990-91 Tandy Technology Scholars Program.
