Formerly an award-winning science teacher who emphasized space studies across the curriculum, Principal Sheila Perry continues to involve students in space-related activities at Bloomfield Elementary School in Bloomfield. These include Project Astro, in which students collected a mile of pennies to fund an astronaut's visit to the school, and a NASA project that allowed her students to communicate with space shuttle astronauts via amateur radio. A highly successful grant writer, Mrs. Perry has received over one million dollars in grants for equipment and services ranging from a portable planetarium and three computer labs to professional development and an after-school enrichment program. A member of the State Technology Planning Team, Mrs. Perry has presented numerous workshops on incorporating technology into instruction.
