Sharon Robinson does more than teach language arts to at- risk seventh-graders at Northwest Middle School in Knoxville; she improves her students' self-image. Each year, Mrs. Robinson engages her students in the production of a Black History musical drama called "Let It Shine," a showcase for her students' many talents, including acting, oration, song and dance. The program also teaches her students social skills, responsibility, collaboration, commitment, and problem-solving. She created Project Outlook, a support group for at-risk students involving role models and mentors from the community. Currently, Mrs. Robinson's studies include brain-compatible learning, and she has conducted a staff in-service on the subject for her fellow teachers at Northwest.
