Sharon (Standley) Papineau is a kindergarten and literacy group teacher at Walter Woodward Elementary School in Manteca. Previously, (Standley) Papineau taught reading at Joshua Cowell Elementary School, also in Manteca, and was a reading recovery specialist at Madison School in Fargo, North Dakota. As a former Title/Chapter I teacher at Washington Elementary School in Valley City, North Dakota, (Standley) Papineau worked closely with both the North Dakota Education Association and the North Dakota Reading Association, conducting numerous workshops and presentations. Among her innovations was "Literacy for All," a 24-month calendar designed to encourage reading as a lifelong habit. Students, parents and community members all contributed to the calendar, which had a readership of 10,000. (Standley) Papineau also worked to increase parent and community knowledge about education, holding open houses and placing stories in local newspapers to inform them about the Title/Chapter I program.
