Waialua Elementary School principal Sharon Nakagawa is a leader who enables those around her to realize exceptional achievements. Through her school's Choices Program, students can explore and experience success by taking charge of their own learning in such areas as foreign languages and cultural studies, music composition and acrylic painting. Parents are invited to enroll in parent-child workshops, and teachers are encouraged to continue their professional growth through dialogue with university faculty. Ms. Nakagawa's resourcefulness is evident in the many projects she has undertaken, from creating an outdoor lanai using discarded benches and tables from a local fast-food restaurant to transforming a vacant garage into a classroom.
