At William Jefferson Clinton Magnet Elementary School in Sherwood, teacher Sandra Eldridge finds and creates engaging ways to interest her second-graders in mathematics. Her "Investigation in Number, Data, and Space" program allows students to describe and compare their approaches to solving math problems. The program has been so successful, it is being employed throughout the school. Mrs. Eldrige initiated a program at her previous school called "Banking on Good Behavior," which teaches students how to manage their behavior at the same time that they learn how to manage money. She has co-chaired the school's Creating Opportunities for Excellence committee, served as a teacher representative to the PTA board and is a mentor to student teachers.
