Roy Crawford, principal of Monmouth Academy in Monmouth, has implemented several innovative changes at his school, to the benefit of both students and teachers. Concerned about the lack of parental support some of his students were receiving at home, Mr. Crawford created The Aspire Learning Center, which provides tutoring and counseling to at-risk students in grades seven through ten. He also has initiated 80-minute class periods, which have given teachers the time to develop more activity-related lessons. Monmouth Academy's technology program also received a boost thanks to Mr. Crawford, who chaired a technology planning committee that was responsible for acquiring and installing computers in every classroom in the school.
