Rosemarye Boykins teaches second grade at J. K. Harper Elementary School. She credits part of her success with students to her involvement of parents in their children's schoolwork. Before students come to school each year, she meets with parents to let them know what to expect and how she will conduct her class. She also sends them weekly progress reports on their children. Ms. Boykins has served on the systemwide curriculum committee, and she helped write the system's language arts guide for second-grade teachers. She also correlated activities to match state objectives for second grade-career education. Ms. Boykins has been her school's Teacher of the Year and has received the Outstanding Local Educator Award from Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
