At Goins Elementary School in Cheyenne, fourth-grade teacher Ronald Vigil discovers each student's strengths and needs, then builds on those with high standards and humor. An amateur thespian, Mr. Vigil makes drama and role-playing integral to his curriculum, while keeping it closely aligned with state standards. He chairs the Life Skills Committee, an action team that helps students develop the positive social skills needed to respond to challenging school and life situations. Mr. Vigil also develops individual learning contracts with his students to help them achieve their goals. He has played a significant role in school improvement efforts through his service on the school's Building Leadership and Collaborative Decision-Making Teams.
