Rodger Hansford, teacher at Sage Elementary School in Spring Creek, makes hands-on demonstration and experimentation keys to learning in his fifth-grade science and math classes. An avid hunter and fisherman, he uses these personal interests to get students excited about science. Recently, he initiated an Invention Convention, allowing students to create and showcase their inventions before the school community. Mr. Hansford conducts in-services and workshops on incorporating science throughout the curriculum, and has developed a science lending library from which other teachers may borrow books, resources and materials for their lessons. He has served on the state science standards committee and is a site trainer for the Northeastern Professional Development Program.
