Robert Nunez, Jr., teaches physical education and maintenance/landscaping courses at Sky View Center, where his innovations and energy have breathed new life into the education careers of many low-achieving teenagers. A former high school dropout, Mr. Nunez wants his students to know that "failure is an event, not a person." To that end, he has designed a custodial maintenance/landscaping class that combines work experience with academic goals and objectives. In the physical education program he has created a learning environment where expectations are high, instruction is tailored to student needs and tools such as P.E. honor roll serve to reinforce students' sense of self-worth.
