A founding member of the National Teacher Space Foundation, Robert Mellette heads the science department at the Betsy Ross Magnet School in New Haven. Involved in much of the district's curriculum development, Mr. Mellette rewrote the science course work for grades five through eight and developed the marine science curriculum used citywide in the career education program. He has encouraged his students to share his interest in the space program by establishing a young astronauts program at his school. In 1987 Mr. Mellette received the U.S. Department of Education's Christa McAuliffe Fellowship Award.
