Biographical Information

Drawing on nearly a decade and a half of experience as a principal, Rick Stephen recently led Orangedale Elementary School in Phoenix through a major period of transition. By instituting such reforms as a school-wide literacy initiative, focused professional development, and reflective teaching practices, Mr. Stephen has helped dramatically raise student achievement levels at Orangedale. Not afraid to dye his hair blue and orange to reward students for achieving their goals, Mr. Stephen is a highly accessible figure to students, staff and parents. He engages in regular dialogues with staff to ensure focus and consistency in instruction and has partnered with other organizations to bring extra resources to the school.
