Under principal Richard Melzer's leadership, Kenilworth Elementary School in Bowie has risen from 40th to 1st in a ranking of Prince George's County schools. It is also one of only 52 schools in Maryland that achieved overall satisfactory performance standards on the Maryland School Performance Assessment Program. Mr. Melzer's high expectations and proactive approach to school improvement motivate students and staff alike to focus on the business of school. Through the enlistment of over 100 parent volunteers, Mr. Melzer has implemented an effective achievement awards program that rewards students for setting goals and trying to achieve them.
