As principal of Kirk Adams Elementary School in Las Vegas, Rebecca A. Johnson implemented numerous reforms to improve the quality of education. She established a strong Professional Learning Community that provided for ongoing collaboration with and among staff, students, parents, the feeder Middle School, and the community in general. She raised student achievement through strategies such as schoolwide assessment portfolios, common interim grade-level assessments, content departmentalization in 4th and 5th grades, student data notebooks, and standards-based grading. The Response to Intervention model that was created and implemented at Kirk Adams was recognized district and state wide. Ms. Johnson co-authored a book on Response to Intervention that was published in 2013. She retired from the Clark County School District in 2016 and currently works as a consultant for Doral Academies of Nevada assisting with data analysis, report completion, and instructional support.
