At Plum Point Middle School in Huntingtown, social studies teacher Rachael Younkers's innovative curriculum and effective instructional strategies help students at all ability levels achieve their best. She coordinates the school's National History Day and History Fair, guiding students in the use of primary and secondary sources as well as technology to develop award-winning presentations. Ms. Younkers collaborated with colleagues to rewrite and adapt the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's environmental service learning program for implementation in the district. A former state Teacher of the Year, Ms. Younkers has been actively involved in Maryland's school reform efforts, participating in statewide task forces and testifying before the state legislature on educational issues. She was instrumental in the recognition of Plum Point as a Blue Ribbon School.
