At St. Bernard High School in St. Bernard, Phyllis Diecidue teaches at-risk high school students how to improve their reading skills, helping them gain an average of three to four grade levels per year. A former bus driver and teacher's aide for St. Bernard Parish, Mrs. Diecidue attended school part-time until she achieved her degree and certification. To motivate students and assist with instruction, she uses computers as well as video and audio equipment. After effectively using the nationally recognized PassKey software system to improve her students' learning through self-paced lessons, Mrs. Diecidue became a spokesperson for the company. She has spearheaded the Commitment to Community Partners, a gala event to honor parental, community and business volunteers, and is a frequent workshop presenter in the St. Bernard Parish's professional development program.
