Known as the "Mr. Wizard" of Boulder High School, Phil Ogata has taught in the school's chemistry department since 1964. In days of limited resources, he designs experiments using common household items to demonstrate scientific principles. He began an advanced chemistry course in which students perform experiments for elementary school students, and the Chemistry Fair he organized was attended by some 1,500 students. Mr. Ogata is an advisor to the National Education Department of Japan, and a Woodrow Wilson Foundation Dreyfuss Fellow. A history buff, he has traveled to Europe and Asia to see the great science labs of past and present.
