Lenora Phillips, first-grade teacher at Daybrook Elementary School in Fairview, creates lessons that motivate, engage and expand students' worlds. Whether using collaborative learning strategies, theater productions, technology or testing, she provides clear learning objectives and a variety of routes for achieving them. Thanks to her leadership in establishing criteria for using SAT 9 test results and conducting in-services for fellow teachers, Daybrook staff members are now able to align their lessons with areas that require greater emphasis. Mrs. Phillips has boosted parent and community involvement in lifelong learning practices by conducting Family Math Nights and preventive discipline programs, as well as establishing an Adult Learning Center where she holds GED and computer classes.
