Patricia Swinton teaches human anatomy and consumer science at Provine High School. Committed to providing her students with the best, she recently won a grant from the Eli Lilly Corporation to buy new science lab equipment. Ms. Swinton is sponsor of the Provine Meteorology Club, the only club of its kind in the district. Members collect data from the club's weather shelter, and their results are broadcast on a local TV station. The club is the only high school weather project in the nation to have its data printed in the American Weather Observer, a national meteorological newspaper. Ms. Swinton, a finalist for Mississippi's 1991 Teacher of the Year, has received the Jackson Public Schools' Gold Apple Award for high school teaching and the Silver Apple for outstanding professional standards and community involvement.
