Nicknamed "The Snake Lady" for the large menagerie of snakes she keeps in her classroom, Pam Schmidt, teaches 8th grade science at Thunder Ridge Middle School in Aurora, Colorado. Pam is also a Science Department Coordinator, WEB (student mentoring/leadership group) Coordinator, and is part of several district and state initiatives including STEM & Project Based Learning Cohorts. She also runs a program at Thunder Ridge called Slithers Club… in which students care for and learn about the 38 snakes that live in her classroom. Her middle school students take the snakes out to local elementary schools and clubs in order to teach younger students and their families about their reptile friends.
