Spanish teacher Pamela Wilcox uses thematic units to engage her students at Klein Oak High School in Spring in high-interest learning. She makes role-playing, music, props, discussion and historical investigation integral to these in-depth explorations of topics such as the Days of the Dead, founding of Mexico City, running of the bulls at the Festival of San FermĂn in Pamplona, or Columbus' discovery of America. Students then demonstrate their linguistic, cultural and historical knowledge through authentic assessments. Mrs. Wilcox also offers a weekly introductory Spanish class for district educators that builds their language competencies while enhancing classroom effectiveness. In her role as District Technology Integration Mentor, she is responsible for providing professional development on education technology.
