"As educators, we must believe that all children can be successful and that it is our job to make sure opportunities for success are provided for all children," says Pam Herrmann, principal of Centennial School District R-1 in San Luis. By helping develop and implement the Colorado State Standards and as an active board member of the Colorado Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Ms. Herrmann has always sought to improve education throughout the economically disadvantaged and isolated San Luis Valley. Among many programs she has initiated at her school is an intensive Parent/Student Training program that she developed that includes family in-services, "Parent Festivals" and monthly workshops addressing such topics as parenting and health issues, academic achievement and literacy. As a teacher, Ms. Herrmann was awarded a 1990 Colorado Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching by the National Science Foundation.
I have had a wonderful career and Thank the Milken Family for giving educators this wonderful experience. This award was unbelievable and something I will never forget,
